Rafsanjani Addresses First Congress on Scientific Production and Software Movement at Azad University

Description of Selected News: "EC chairman urges promotion of science

TEHRAN (IRNA) -- Expediency Council Chairman Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani here on Wednesday said that under the conditions dominating the world of today, speedy, serious and in-depth measures are required towards nationwide promotion of science.

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the First International Congress on Scientific Production and Software Movement, he added that such a movement is one of the requirements pointed out by the Supreme Leader, given his recent call on national scholars to pay special attention to it.

"Special attention has been paid by EC to the Supreme Leader's remarks on the issue and it was underlined in drawing up the 20-year vision plan," he added.

Turning to the scientific backwardness of Islamic countries and the world of Islam, he reiterated the need to admit that Muslims are behind others, particularly the west, in this respect.

"The western science and knowledge is rooted in the orient and Muslim countries, particularly Iran. Despite the publicity on respect for science by the western countries and the verbal focus on its promotion, in practice the less developed countries are denied access to the advanced scientific developments," added the official.

The inaugural ceremony of the First Congress on Scientific Production and Software Movement, which has been organized by Azad University, was attended by the university chancellor, a number of intellectuals, researchers as well as domestic and foreign scientific/cultural figures."
