LONDON, Nov 8 (IranMania) - Islamic Iran's Youth Coordinating Council said Saturday it favors the candidacy of former President Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani for the upcoming presidential election.
The fledgling party is a branch of the Islamic Labor Party's Youth Wing, Executives of Construction, the Association of Experts, Development and Moderation Party and Labor House.
"We, the signatories, invite Hashemi Rafsanjani to take this step in the election to again build Iran," the council said in its statement, a copy of which was made available to IRNA.
Iran's presidential election will be held in May 2005.
Though Rafsanjani has been reportedly requested to run in the upcoming presidential election, he is yet to give a decisive response.
Meanwhile, former Prime Minister Mir-Hossein Mousavi has turned down any suggestion to become a candidacy in the next presidential election.
The two consecutive tenures of President Mohammad Khatami end next year with the upcoming presidential election."
